I've just got back from Southport...
I've finally seen the sand dunes of Formby and Southport that have been described to me oh so many times... it felt like i'd been there before as i drove through them.

Friday night we ate food in a pub/restaurant and were entertained by obvious regulars dancing to salsa and tango in amongst the tables... my sister was a hit with a chap who (although on a night off) was an Elvis impersonator... and who couldn't seem to stop singing at her.

Last night we went out for an Indian (it was almost as good as Mrs [info]sinibar 's and it was the first place in the UK where i saw Thali on the menu.
we must have made an impression on the boss as we got personal service from him and then a complimentary drink at the end.
we then went onto a pub where the landlord invited us in and promised we'd be safe in there... only to find he'd just moved pubs... from HULL! so we had a good chinwag about that before he tried to get us all up dancing...

Summary Southport folk are very very friendly :-)

Last weeks trip to Virginia has further tempted me to travel by train around the USA.

This little station, open one hour a day (closed on Tuesdays), at Staunton intrigued me. Perhaps it's because the line curves into and out of town, giving a "What's around the bend?" feeling.

Almost everything you ever needed to know about My Bloody Valentine:

The flute is not an instrument one usually associates with extreme noise terror, but, when My Bloody Valentine unleashed the show's crescendo, a track called 'You Made Me Realise', the instrument added an almost unbearable shrillness to what was already a blizzard of sustained sonic overload. As the tour progressed, the song became a thing of ever more terrifying beauty due to an extended white noise section that could last up to 10 minutes and was built around the repetition of a single chord played by Shields and his then girlfriend, second guitarist, Bilinda Butcher. Both had already suffered for their art, Butcher with a perforated eardrum, and Shields with the onset of tinnitus. Now, it was the audience's turn.

A Place To Bury Strangers are in Glasgow tomorrow. I have to buy earplugs. Anyone else fancy?

Also from the Absurder, "Since Dr No was released in 1962, James Bond has killed more than 150 men and slept with 44 women, three quarters of whom have tried to kill him."

That certainly puts my problems in perspective.

Yesterday's start-of-summer drink was cold and overcast, but it's good today and the ash trees at the bottom of the road are starting to come into leaf. I notice Luke Mitchell's appeal failed, too, which didn't really surprise me. There wasn't any good lab evidence, but that in itself isn't fatal - courts worked for centuries without it, and the jury didn't take long to convict. I hope they got it right, though. I'm glad it wasn't a decision I had to help with. William Beggs had an appeal mounted too, but I haven't heard what happened there.

Londoners may be pleased to know that the ongoing Telectroscope project is nearing readiness: "If you should happen to be in the vicinity of City Hall in London or the Fulton Ferry Landing in New York next Tuesday or Wednesday, you may see something strange going on. And on Thursday, 22 May, a Telectroscope will be installed at each end of the tunnel, and will open to the public for the first time." More information here.

And there's a new ballboy album soon too. Life is good.

Subject:Rule #5: Never disturb a horny goth when they're 'on the pull'!
Time:1:51 pm.
Subtitle: "This is the season when goths get to spawning"

Yesterday's journey through Chaos was ...errrmm... amusing, to say the least. The day went through with me doing usual domestic stuffs.. simple as, really.

Get towards evening and I get a text from [info]caveynik about whether I'll be around Big Red later on. So, I eventually end up going down to Big Red. Get in, get to bar and just as I'm lining up to get a beer in I hear "Steve!" from behind me. Turn around to find [info]cyberpunkgrrl sitting at a table with a couple of friends. So, I hook up ther and have a bit of a chat with her. After a short while, the Deathrock Meister turns up, posits me with a fistfull of flyers and joins in with the fun at the table. Time rolls on, [info]cyberpunkgrrl and chums vanish away and myself and the Nikster trundle down the Holloway parting company at the station as he was off to the Buffalo Bar (I think).

Tube was amazingly efficient (for once!). No delays, no "lines closed for engineering work", one of that crap. I had planned (yet another) route down to Minories, one which I hoped would not screw up my internal compass too much. I picked wisely it seems as within about 30 seconds of being above ground I had my bearings. About that time I became a plumberfelt a tap just to my side. Head flicks to defensive. I don't "know" the area, didn't see anyone on the tube I knew, could be a spot of bovva! Turn to face the assailant to find [info]alohura smiling back. "Howdy"s were exchanged with the scary revelation that [info]alohura could identify my shower gel. Either she has the nose of a perfumier (probably keeps it in a box under the bed!) or she's become a stalker. Oh well, if I'm to have a stalker might as well be a pretty one, hey? We journey up to the Minories, get in and see that it has already been heavily infested with gothics of all shapes and sizes. I'm guessing by the prescence of so many who had posted that they'd been Leipzig'ing that this was the after-party! Very well attended, very full.

The flyer drop went exceptionally well, even down to one of the lasses on the door taking a flyer I assume for her own personal later attendance.

There was a minor altercation with [info]_lexx where he was startled to see me drinking wine. The logistics mean that I only have to venture to the bar once to get booze, rather than a couple of times as happens when you drink pints, plus a bottle of wine works out cheaper than three pints of beer so you do the math!

My name/face association unit went a bit squik at one point, apologies to [info]alohura for that. The music was good. I didn't end up doing too many suicide runs, about three I think. Which makes me think that actually forcing the smokers outside does have its benefits as there is no way in Einstein's universe would you have been able to get everyone inside the venue.

The night rolled through, I finished up and got a lift back from [info]flavius_m (thanks for the lift!) this time leaving it for him to navigate the higher reaches of the Holloway. Not being "a driver" I don't think in terms of "one way system".. except for when it comes to dating maybe at which point a lot of it does seem to be "one way" *grin*

I should make a new mantra "Don't sit on the sofa when you get in" as once agin, I found myself waking up at about 8am crashed out on the sofa. Oops! Still, it's my private space so there's no inconveniene caused to any others.

Alas and alack, it would appear that the combination of bourbon, beer and red wine (that fscker was 14.5%!!! WTF?) has left me a little crumpled at the edges. Still the slight dull ache behind the eyes and the vague blurring of the world around me makes for a useful mental distraction from the head squirrel that I've had for a while.

Now to go and pretend to be "an adult" and do "adult things" like ohhhh.. looking a cute scantily-clad girliesshopping for food. Ciao!

This is a crazy weekend. I went out to lunch on Saturday and didn't fall ill. I played Guitar Hero III with a friend all afternoon and my hand didn't ache. I went to a party in the evening and didn't feel super-tired. I'm now enjoying a relaxing Sunday, pottering around doing various chores. Lunch is a spinach and lettuce and carrot and cheese and smoked bacon and crushed chillie salad. It's quite yummy.

I haven't had a headache all week and I've been able to get up and do stuff. If I'm lucky, this will be because of the awesomeness of my new diet and not because of some random fluke.

I'll give it to the end of the month and see how I've gotten on, and if it makes sense to I'll organise the test for the thing that the diet is intended to mitigate.

Well, I did go to Invocation in the end and I'm glad I did, it was very well attended and I had fun. There'll be pictures (from the rubbish little compact camera) at some point.

Today, a couple of lessons and, if pupil that has to pay does, the Dust gig at the Underworld. If not, probably a quiet night in, beginning to sort out and pack what I will need to take with me to Venezuela.

In other news, as I lacked the energy to get over to Lewisham for a party last night, I went to see Iron Man instead. It was good fun, and in terms of visually-snazzy hi-technology, I thought it peed all over Transformers, myself - and I'm not familiar with the source material for either movie - but I'm not sure why it's received quite as much fan hype as it has.

I'm definetely with several friends and Bill Bryson (on above):  "Good Manners cost nothing..... And another thing, the next person who I open a door for, who walks through and DOESN'T say thank you, IS GOING TO GET IT IN THE KIDNEYS".

Excuse the moan (especially after the last few posts have been so miserable), but good manners are nice, and have a good domino effect, and show that you see the other individuals(s) are also there in existence.

Not only have I let h/mates through first, come up the stairs, particularly if they have bags, and rarely had acknowledgement or a word of thanks, but none has remarked  "cheers hon" for a useable washing line, put up (and earlier bought by me).   The other one is hazardous, through spiky branches and brambly bits, and now lots of spiky foliage from clearing the garden blocks the path to it.  So I put up another one, fully expecting to get hassle for "tying up the open bit of the garden".   No, no grumbles,  but went to put my washing out this morning and found someone else's hanging up.  Sigh.  Fair enough, I put it up for all,  But no acknowledgement or thank you.  Am I just over polite?  No, I think I'm one of the few well-mannered, that distingushes me in society.  And I know when to say THANK YOU.  That was nice of you.  What a shame, others are not capable of such thinking.

Work appears to be a bit like the bit in the Matrix, where information gets downloaded directly into Neo's brain. This week was fairly hectic, as I started to find out more of what I am being asked to achieve, whilst having my brain frantically filled with what I need to know. Most of the week I was in Coventry, but on Thursday and Friday I went down to Seer Green, to see the R&D people down there. Met a lot of people, ending up with getting a really big list of names, and writing down who did what. I am not sure I can officially ask anyone to do anything for me, but at least knowing who to try to ask is a good start.

I'm not sure if I'm still having a super time, or becoming slightly overwhelmed with what I seem to have to do. Probably both to be honest. This has had the unfortunate side effect that I am starting to get behind on things from the fun side of life. After the next couple of weeks I should be getting back on top of stuff again.

Next week I'll be over near Cardiff, so I may well be a little incommunicado.

Got up early so I could spend 3 hours rewiring the speakers in the lounge. The new cables actually arrived at 7.30am, but obviously I went back to bed for a while first! The plugs that I'd paid significantly extra for on one end of the cables didn't fit the amp, so the first thing I had to do was cut them off. And I had to drill several holes in the brackets I'd spent 3 hours putting up last weekend.

Drove to Currys to buy a PVR and look at TVs. After 40mins of wandering the shop looking for an assistant, I gave up and went to B&Q to buy cable clips. I returned to Currys but after being ignored for another 15mins I stormed out, vowing never to return. I passed an atractive young woman on the till, with 3 male staff 'members' fawniing around her. No wonder the company is closing 700 stores. Or maybe because of that the staff can't be bothered to serve anyone any more!
The question I wanted answering was: If the PVR only has a SCART output, and not HDMI, can you still watch the Freeview HD channels in High Def? I'm not buying it if you can't. I guess the solution would be to split the aerial cable with one going direct into the TV and the other into the PVR, then I could watch in HD but not record, and I'd only need a single-tuner PVR.
And another - if I want the TV to play sound through the main speakers, do I need to have the aerial (and/or PVR) going into the amp first, or do I pipe the TV output signal into the amp? If the former, then how do you change TV channel?
It's all far too confusing for me.

The FreeCycle bloke didn't turn up to collect my 14" TV either, which is irritating, but there were 5 other people who wanted it so hopefully I can shift it next week.

One of those things is part 2 of the film 'Flood' and, oh my god, I have to say it's absolutely abysmal. Somewhere along the line I must have forgot to...errrrr... go to bed! Oops! Woke up on the sofa about 3:30am and then went to bed! I slept through until nearly mid-day! Zoiks! I haven't slept that long in ages. I think my system needed to downtime. The joyously gained bottle of bourbon is now a mere half-bottle! Oops! Probably not the most healthy sedative you can get but certainly effective. I even remember being in 'dream time' at some point, the dream involving me being surrounded by hundreds and hundreds of vinyl records and just feeling great about that. Maybe my subconscious is trying to tell me something? *grin* Naaah!

Anywho, have been feeling proper good about myself for the first time in ages! \O/. Got a lot of the domestic stuff done, I can do the rest tomorrow. That's a point, I wonder if I'll be back flyering tomorrow as I haven't done any in about three weeks. I know Stef said he had a few "issues" to sort out with the (new) venue management involving the times that he can start charging people to get into the gig. Find a different venue mate, is all I can say to that one.

The plan (There's a plan? - Ed) for the rest of the day involves Invocation at some point and maybe doing a sun dance at some point as this drizzly weather is starting to 'pith me right orft!' This is early April/November weather.. stop vacationing in May! Go on! Hop it back to your own seasons! Great thanks to all who came to the Boat-Warming

~ bank holiday became a lovely Monday!

I had kind of visualised that people would come and go - particularly with that great sunshine outdoors - but it appears everyone felt more keen staying aboard than to peruse the cavalcade!   Counting afterwards I believe a good 14-15 (?) people came by, with as many as 11 mingling on the boat silmultaneously (it giving me a rather surprising insight into how many guests my 'Lady-Ship' can hold!). This happy mingling enhanced by the unexpected & very handsome gestures from just about everyone to bring wine... in duplicates! a complete inundation of bottles ending up precariously crammed atop my tiny kitchen-worktop, out of which we consumed as many as 10 (all counted when recycling!!).

Memorable moments were [info]barbedwirekiss's heart-warming toast (thank you, sir!) and [info]jackdiablo who, when parting late night, embraced me and said it was quite remarkable how it felt as if I've already been on the boat for years (this a comment that meant a lot to me... as this is, curiously, how it has felt for me too: a strange sense of belonging having held me enthralled since the very first moment I set my foot upon her, making this completion a very emotional affair.)

~ All in all a fab party and the best company I could have had for starting my great journey with her. Thanks all! :-D  ~

***

As things go (i.e. unplanned) all happens at once:

Hence I found myself @ WGT in LEIPZIG pretty much straight after. Talked into coming by [info]doktorjoy, who proved a very relaxing companion (although awfully opinionated at times... ;-P ) and - together with other very good friends/great people present - produced what was finally a thoroughly enjoyable WGT for me.

All prior times having been uneven experiences due to one thing or another, this was the first time I felt right at home in Leipzig, dressing up & floating along in a very mellow fashion. Admittedly a laid back disposition that perhaps did not get me to as many gigs as I could have gotten to, but did give me a very nice and needed vacation.

Giving myself lots of chilling time, the only day really of high energy was Saturday. This purely to be blamed on Stef whom I'd promised to purchase a double of rum for. A fulfilment of a promise (@ 'When we were young') that somehow morphed into an upward spiral (I will staunchly argue this: it was not downward the slightest.... ) of drunken frivolity, with us generously attempting to lure everyone around us into this delightful state.
Apparently
I spent a fortune on obscure shots to people and became somewhat audible from every end of the venue (although [info]doktorjoy did have the kindness to say I'd been 'exuberant'). This a kindness that the hotel-room walls wasn't the slightest interested partaking in on our return: RUDELY engaging in a very frustrating dance around me, that forced me to spend a considerable time in bed upright drinking water whilst being the victim of an extreme and most inconsiderate teasing from my room companion (clearly trusting me inordinately not to walk out and leave him with the bill...).

The appeasement of all this, one that only came the day after when Stef joined us and [info]goth_hangover for pizza (this the breakfast), sporting suspiciously big/dark sunglasses: 80% straw-rum satisfactorily having done to her what the careless mish mash of shots had done to me. This, of course, not stopping her (or I) from eyeing up a very nice male specimen at the table behind her; Stef most impressively fishing up her make-up mirror to try to angle in a good eye-full of the man, making me burst out in laughter! We kept tittering in an extremely immature fashion all over our pizzas to the somewhat non-plussed expression of our male companions (but then they'd had their share of passing females to peruse, so they really had no need to complain).

Other great highlights was the unexpectedly great weather; drinking elderberry-wine by the mesmerising night-fire at the pagan village; the impressive gig of Fields of Nephilin's
; and discovery of new bands such as Reptyle. That and some additional private moments and enlightening conversations, which I for now prefer to keep to myself.

Some peeps from London I missed altogether, whereas others I kept running into on such a regular basis that arranging meet-ups seemed needless! [info]erming, [info]dave_exile, [info]batpuss, [info]andyravensable, [info]vampyresheep, Rob, [info]matt_the_mo, Nallely, Ade50021 & Tracey to mention a few familiar faces that, planned or unplanned, I had the great pleasure to come across. Countless people were introduced to me (I didn't even attempt to remember names after a certain point), and I was delighted to run into some old friends from my Brighton days as well (Tim & Sandra from 'Synthetics').

~ In summary I am very pleased Dok talked me into coming, as I nearly didn't go. This was the best Leipzig so far for me! :-D ~

So next up, of course, is Invocation tonight. Hopefully I'll be seeing some of you there!

This weekend I have Zed staying with me as she's down for a metal festival at the Underworld.

I dashed off from work, passing Paul on the way home (should have stayed but wanted to be there when Zed arrived), then had just eaten dinner when Zed arrived. Zed refused offers of food, then put up with me pondering dashing off to get a choccie cake before Sainsburies closed.

Earlier in the afternoon I'd spoken to Ade and found out about an NFD gig at the Slimelight. I thought at that point (7:30) that Zed might be interested so mentioned it to her. Ade reckoned doors were at 8, so off we scooted. We got there at 8:05 to find the place looking very closed. There was a poster outside saying doors at 10pm. So off we scooted to the Glasshouse. Although being a Wetherspoon they seemed to be trying to make it into a crap nightclub, and well Zed and I weren't happy there. I said to Zed I should have invited Jodie along (but a quick stroke of my face revealed at least 2 days worth of stubble, so that'd be a no then).

After a drink we went to the Angel, where we were happier. We'd finished our drinks at 9:45 so stayed for the next 20 mins or so talking. Apologies to Zed for being Jodietastic... We got to Slimelight to find a queue (progress) and security outside but they were still soundchecking. We didn't get in till nearly 11 (and they charged us a tenner each rather than the advertised £7).

We got drinks then there was a big wait till the first band came on, during which Paul arrived. We chatted a bit and he met Zed (and helped relieve her of a Jodietastic evening). Paul reckoned alcohol was the way forward and kept trying to get us drunk to reveal embarrassing things, but well as he said I have to at least have a chat with Jodie as we have so much in common...

The first band came on and well they were ok, but by now I was tired so didn't really appreciate them. Likewise the second band.

NFD didn't take the stage till must be 1:30am <yawn> and were quite good. The three of us were swaying to the music a bit, but I think quite a few of the crowd was on something. Someone (male) collided with me gently from behind then grabbed me and gave me an enormous hug. Seems the spirit of Yusef had been channelled to the gig. It wasn't a bad gig, it was just a bit too late in the day to be appreciated.

The end of the set came, then Zed and I were about to leave, but Rain by the Cult came on, so we stayed and danced. We then scooted off after saying goodbye to Paul, and 15 mins later were on a nightbus home.

I then showed Zed the print of Brussels and the print of Anne Sudworth's White Godess picture, which she liked a lot (and didn't realise till I pointed it out it is a Stonehenge picture). I then dispatched Zed to the attic then went to bed.

Time:12:28 pm.
Mood: annoyed.
Since my last update, the housing situation has reversed neatly. Two things fell through on [info]greyeyedeve's house in Stoke - firstly, the sale which we had thought was proceeding smoothly, and secondly the living room ceiling. According to the estate agents, the purchaser's financial situation has changed and they're not looking for other properties, rather than having found somewhere better.

The ceiling is an original, nearly century-old lath-and-plaster job, and was already crumbling and partially collapsed. A large chunk in the centre of the room came down while the estate agents were showing round some buyers, and they're reasonably refusing to do any more viewings until it's fixed. Next week we will need to phone around for some quotes to (a) take down and (b) replace the ceiling; doing the latter will make the house more sellable, and if it's not horrifically expensive then we'll do it. It should be a fairly simple job for anyone with the equipment to take the old ceiling down, and the replacement will probaby be plasterboard & skim which is a lot easier to work with than lath!

In better news, it seems that the gas and electricity certificates have finally been done on the new house in Levenshulme, and we've received a property survey from the vendor. I'm still worried about the double glazing - not only am I aware of a gap between two units, but I'm pretty sure it's been fitted since April 2002, which means it needs FENSA certificate, and it doesn't have one. We asked the estate agents to look into certification and they obviously didn't bother (this was at the height of election fever when I was busy with other things) since FENSA's own website has a postcode search which provides this list of Levenshulme FENSA-certified businesses. Next week we'll be phoning them for a quote to examine and certify (if necessary) the house.

Almost a grand's worth of repairs needed to get the car through MOT! And even then it would appear to have an oil leak we haven't tracked down yet... argh!

Deep cut in one of the tyres... fair enough. Suspension bushes going... that happens. Handbrake not activating... seems to be endemic to all automatics! (based on my comprehensive sample of owning two) Brake discs pitted... just one of the many ways in which heavy cars get expensive. Fuel filter needs replacing... hmm, should probably have had this done last year anyway.

Exhaust manifold gasket wasn't actually fixed in and was floating around under the bonnet... wtf?!

The garage that last serviced & MOT'd the car has gone out of business. Either the new guys are more thorough, or just better at finding things that are wrong to charge me for :|

So... no expensive last minute trip abroad for me this year! Not that I was planning to anyway. But if I'm going to have a working car, might take the bike up to my parents' and explore some trails around there, maybe try the Mary-Towneley-Loop-in-one-day challenge.

I started the antibiotics yesterday, and today I am knackered - probably mild side effects plus my body launching a concerted attack on the invaders now the cavalry has arrived. Uuurgh. I am interspersing short periods of useful activity with sedentary things like spodding and knitting. Amuuuse meeee.

17:15 - I had second wind around lunchtime, so I made a monster batch of coleslaw as well as lunch and then had a bit of it with lunch, and made pastry for chicken pie later to use up the chicken, celery and associated Stuff that's lurking in the fridge; I did washing and hung it up, tidied my room and vacuumed, and tidied and cleaned the dining room table. Then I had 16:00 antibiotics, so now I am splat again and doing sedentary things. I wish I had taken out the compost bowl while it wasn't raining, never mind.

MONDAY LIST
-Get other bottle of antibiotic from Boots using piece of paper currently in Boots bag by bedroom door
-Take relevant ID documents (council tax document in black folder) to Corn Exchange Box Office to get folk festival ticket, with proof of purchase which is...somewhere on my desk
-Fill in activity sheet for SE group, which is also on my desk, also do the other bit of homework
-Ring hospital to book CRB meeting

I've sort of got it in my head that I should go to Infest this year. You have to go 15 bands down the Amphi line-up to find a band I've never seen (and I don't like Eisbrecher so much that I'd go to a festival just to see them) and M'era Luna only offers them plus Delain on the 'hit-list'. Simply put, I'm running out of bands to see. Also, the next year or so seems like a good time to steer clear of the Eurozone. I've gone to Germany enough times at the expense of other countries, anyway.

So, InFest. How late in the day can I safely leave it and still get there with a ticket in my pocket, easily-arranged transport (preferably not via Leeds) and an affordable room near the festival site? I've been to Infest 3 times before and it's been a varied experience. 2002 occurred before I knew that many people in the UK scene and felt rather B-listed by what were hastily-made friends, whilst in 2003 I knew more people but not that many turned up (and the line-up that year was pretty weak - Cut.rate.box and GodMod headlining on the first two nights?).

But then there was 2005.....one of the best 3 festivals I've ever been to, along with M'era Luna 2006 and WGT 2007 (admittedly I was on a personal 'high' in May 07 and would have enjoyed Leipzig regardless of what went on there). And it looks like a lot of the same people who really 'made' those festivals will be in Bradford again this year.

And Front 242 are on.

Subject:Calling all Petrolheads... Le Mans package tickets for sale
Time:8:49 am.
Music:Viva La Megababes.

I have TWO spare Le Mans package tickets available.

These consist of:

  1. Two entry tickets to Le Mans circuit itself over race weekend.
  2. Camping spaces for two people (2 tents), plus vehicle parking (car or 2 motorbikes) for the duration (see below).
  3. Breakfast and evening meal (see below)
  4. Shuttle Bus transport to and from the circuit - so you can get home when you're drunk. Or if you're still drunk in the morning, so you can get to the circuit the next day.
  5. One "Bleu" Parking Ticket at the circuit itself - so if you want to pose and drive there one day, you have somewhere to park. And then you can get drunk, leave the car there, and come home by shuttle bus.

Camping is "in outstanding part-wooded site anytime from Tuesday before the race until the Monday after the race" and includes:

  • H & C showers and good well maintained toilets
  • Full English Breakfast and Dinner (Friday to Sunday)
  • BBQ on Saturday
  • Available coverage of sporting events on large screen TV
  • Party with live music on Friday evening
  • Private Parking at site
  • Real Ale Bar
  • Live Radio coverage from Radio Le Mans

It's approximately 5km from the circuit, so you can always skateboard there if you feel like it. In fact, in the past, I have had to WALK more than 5km to get to the circuit because that was the closest place I could find to park.

Shuttle Bus transport is provided over the four main days from Thursday Qualifying to race end on Sunday. There are additional buses through the night of the race itself. Times and exact Drop Off/Pick up Points will be set during the race week subject to local conditions.

I will sell the Camping / Parking Blue / Le Mans / Shuttle bus tickets at GBP 500 the pair, which is below what they cost in the first place; if no-one is interested I'll send them back to the organisers who have a waiting list, because Le Mans is totally sold out by now.

Le Mans takes place on the weekend of 14/15 June.

I am going to critique Raineâ??s portfolio. I have always notice really great work from Raine, and I was very impressed with her portfolio. Being a graphic designer, I donâ??t have the eye for photography myself, but I do know when I see great work. All of Raineâ??s images are strong and very powerful, and evoke a lot of emotion from her portraits. She has a very strong visual sense, and does a great job of composing her subjects. Her black and whites are equally impressive as her color images, and her lighting is just fantastic. My favorite images from Raine would most definitely be her portraits, and I believe that is where she shines. Her weakest areas where I donâ??t get a lot from would probably be abstract shots. Overall, Raine is well rounded and has produced awesome work in this class so far. Great job!

A review of a not so great final portfolio submitted for my Visualization class.

I just got woken by the sound of loud music from across the way this evening and then gunfire. I wondered if the neighbours were whooping it up with firearms or someone had come to complain armed to the teeth.

Turned out to be a music festival with fireworks.

Someone in future please remind me that there is supposed to be a "cooling off period" between buying a bottle of bourbon and drinking it! Oops! I blame being at a loose end... I originally planned on a "fun night on the tiles" and headed out. Pretty much first stop was the Hobdevlin ('fun night out'???). There were almost, without a S of a D, more people outside "'aving a faaag' than there were in there. I had one (me good!) and then thought better of it. The rational side of my ind has occasion to show itself and thought "Go home, have a beer there!". Then I noticed Stainsbury was still open so a quick shopping trip followed. I emerged with a pizza and a bottle of bourbon (plus a few other things). Get back, eat pizza *yummy!* and then sit down to cause terror and mayhem on the interwebs (as per usual).. but instead, I got a call from [info]saucy_goth who was talking about us maybe putting on a gig.. could be fun, would be fun... let's see, hey? By the end of the call the bottle of bourbon had opened itself, poured itself a nice halthy large measure and plonked the glass in my hand. Well what was I to do?

This evening's musical entertainment has gone something like starting with the B-52s, then on to Thrill Kill Kult (this is the band I soooooo wanted to host in the UK!) then it went sorta strange. There was Skinny Puppy, Front 242, Front Line Assembly, Die Krupps, All About Eve, The Mission and Killing Joke. I don't know how but I think this is the first time I've ever heard Milenium by Skinny Puppy and I must say I was impressed. Fortunately I seemed to skirt around ebmthat music form that makes even goth look credible so I'm happy.

Along the way there was a brief game of text tennis with [info]the_evil_perambulatrix who was both menacing and enticing in her no-questions threat of harm upon my person if I dared report anything of her evil pastimes ever again. OK, it wasn't quite like that but we all know how those evil perambulators can be , don't we boys and girls? *grin*

Right, I've just noticed that it's tomorrow already. I think I should sleep.. nini!
