V for Vendetta is in the running for best movey this year.

all the shimmer of a pop action film, with all the plott and twisteyness of a really good inde comic.

I wouldn't say it's that good - not the best I've seen so far this year, largely because of a few massive inconsistencies, like Stephen Fry's character (not his performance though - that was one amongst many of the best things about the movie).

Pretty good! Since 01/01/06 I have seen 20 films - and I've hardly been to the cinema for the past couple of weeks as I've been too busy!! I'll catch V this weekend I hope...

Ah, but you have a job and a (regular) social life - neither of which inhibit my cinema-going...

Though you also have a far better selection of films - I was looking at your list and found that about three quarters of those didn't show at the local place (or any other cinema within thirty miles) :(

As you may have guessed, I've seen just about every film that has shown locally, except for those that I wouldn't touch with a barge pole (and even then I've sometimes made the fateful decision to see them anyway, and regretted it).

Let's just hope that 'A scanner Darkly' is playing in the cinemas you have a card for, we should have a geek-outing..a geekting?

Regarding Memoirs of a Geisha, you really need to read the book because the film misses out the background of the story and it's way too rushed. Read the book before I watched the film and it's totally mind-blowing, seriously got me so emotionally involved. Don't hold the film in very high regard at all, then again I'm not a film lover, I have to read the book before I can watch any film usually.

Ah, that's directly contrary to what someone else told me - they'd read the book and thought it was okay (nothing special) but loved the film.
They also mentioned another book about geisha that they thought was better (but I can't remember which it was).

That would be Empress Orchid I assume, i'm reading that now. Everyone has different views on these things, it depends on how your mind works I guess. Depends if you can drift away into a world of imagination easily. I have also heard the opinion of dislike expressed but it's fantastic in my humble opinion. Lol I wrote a very detailed explanation, then decided better of it and deleted it due to not wanting to bore your comment readers.

I think you underestimate some of my readers (as for the others, they can choose to stop reading at any time).

Hey - completely irrelevant to the post, but hi, you are now the 100th person I've added to my friends list ;)

And could you let me know when/where you put up photos from York over the weekend, as I have requests for photos of the pin stripy goodness of the new corset :) Thanks.

I'm in the process of uploading last weekends photos. I would post direct links to the pictures of you, but I've barely used my fotopic account, so you may as well look at everything (it currently stands at about thirty or so photos from the weekend plus three more from before - in the process of uploading cemetery pics).

...wonder if LJ will automagically linkify that, without my having to do it?

I'm wondering if I know you, seeing as I know everyone on your friends list...

I thought Bettie Page was good, though the film didn't really have much 'shape' to it - it was just a series of vignettes from various points in her life (though mostly career), without any real changes in pace or structure. Not entirely convinced that she could be so naïve all the time, but still an enjoyable film.
